This conference presents a gentle introduction to computer programming (with python) for executives and decision makers. George holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He has over 10 years of industrial experience in computer programming and systems design.

His research interests lie at the intersection of Formal Languages and Natural Language Processing techniques to finding solutions to many, different problems. Recently, his work focuses on utilising these techniques in Computer Science Education. He has collaborated actively with researchers in several other sub-fields of Computer Science;  particularly in the Data Economies and Data Markets Group of the Mechanism Design for Social Good (a multi-institutional initiative using techniques from algorithms, optimization, and mechanism design, along with insights from other disciplines, to improve access to opportunity for historically underserved and disadvantaged communities). George is currently a Research Associate at Wits University and the University of Johannesburg, both in South Africa. He also has several other academic and industrial portfolios.
Abejide holds a PhD in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He is currently an Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Applications in the Department of Applied Information Systems at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), and the Founder/Lead of the Research Cluster on Formal Structures, Algorithms, and Industrial Applications. Abejide is NRF-Rated (a recognition conferred on South African researchers with exceptional contribution to knowledge by the National Research Foundation of South Africa) and he is mainly interested in Problems and Algorithms in AI, Innovations for driving the 4th Industrial Revolution, the Applications of Formal Grammars (String or Picture grammars) in the Synthesis of Things, Programs (Analysis, Comprehension, and/or Synthesis), Special-purpose Compilers, and Theoretical Computing. In his 11 years of experience in academia and the software industry, he has left a trail of 90+ awards, 50+ publications, and an incredible record of top-notch delivery of algorithmic solutions. He has a total of 17 years of programming experience across 45+ languages and platforms.

Abejide is the recipient of the UJ CBE Dean’s Top Senior Lecturer Award 2018, SA Department of Public Service (DPSA) Ignite Hack Innovation Award 2018, the UJ Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Award for the Innovation of the Year 2019, SA Department of Communications Living 4IR Hackathon Overall Best Innovation of 2019, and Two SA State IT Agency (SITA) Public Service Innovation Awards of 2019.

Abejide has won over R2.4 Million Rands in research and innovation funds, mostly in the last five years. In May 2020, he secured software licenses for the entire UJ community that is worth over $1.5 Billion USD. Abejide is one of the youngest professors on the African continent.

Chinedu holds a PhD in Computer Science from the North West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa. In addition, He has some professional certifications including Python Programming Specialisation. He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Research Cluster on Formal Structures, Algorithms, and Industrial Applications, Department of Applied Information Systems at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. His research interests include Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education, Synthesis of Things, Virtual Reality and Computer Science Education in general. Chinedu is a co-mentor of the team that won two awards at the South African State Information Technology Agency (SITA) NDP 2030 Hackathon Competition in 2019. He is the inventor of Python-Bot, an AI ChatBot that teaches computer programming with Python.

This virtual conference will be a 5-day, 4 hourly, live group call (meeting). Learning resources i.e. learner manual and slideshow presentation will be made available to the learners prior to the conference. Online functionality like Screen Share; Breakout rooms, Polls and Group chat (text) will be predominantly used, to promote learning engagement and interactivity.
